Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the four main components of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. It involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body to cause a therapeutic effect. Depending on your pets issues additional methods of stimulating acupuncture points may be used including acupressure (digital stimulation of acupunture points), electroacupuncture (electrical amplification of acupuncture point stimulation), and moxibustion (the stimulation of acupuncture points with herbal heat).

Acupuncture is clinically proven to stimulate pain relief, tissue healing, reduce inflammation, regulate gastrointestinal motility, reduce fever, as well as regulate the reproductive and immune systems. As the practice of acupuncture becomes more mainstream more and more of its effects are being demonstrated and clinically proven.

Does It Hurt?

Acupuncture is generally not painful. The needles used are VERY fine like a strand of hair. Over 95% of patients are comfortable when receiving acupuncture and show little to no acknowledgement to the placement of the needles. Many pets are so relaxed during their treatment that they'll enjoy a snack throughout it or take a nap.
Some pets are more sensitive than others though. If we determine that acupuncture may help your pet but they are not comfortable receiving it, their treatment will be tailored. If acupuncture is to help your pet it is critical that they accept their treatment and hopefully enjoy it to! Acupuncture often involves a series of treatments. If your pet is uncomfortable, adjustments need to be made to ensure that they will allow subsequent treatments.
